Here we put links to sites we either find interesting, or which relate to people we know and respect. Pop back here from time to time, as we will put more links here.

www.healthyhooves.co.uk

Website of Equine Podiatrist Jayne Hunt.  Jayne lectures and trims in SA periodically.  She has qualified under KC La Pierre and for me has the greatest understanding of the anatomy of the hoof and of barefoot hoofcare of all the barefoot practices I have come across.  The HPT (High Performance Trim) is subtle but in depth and brings the hoof into balance which is something many hoofcare specialists actually miss.  It also uses a different set of landmarks on the hoof with which to do this.  The EP approach to hoofcare is holistic and requires the owner to look at nutrition, environment, workload and requirements of the horse.

www.painthorseafrica.com

Where we found Predominantly Picasso, now the father of our beautiful colt Pablo Tambisque (Click here for pictures of Pablo). Not always an easy process, AI, but it always made easier if all the people involved operate in a professional manner. Paint Horse Africa does.

www.patrickthomas.co.za

Patrick is an excellent equine physiotherapist and when I was researching who to use here in the Cape, every therapist I asked for recommendations gave me his name.  He is also registered to be able to help horses.  Patrick also runs a number of courses in equine massage and stretches and believes in educating owners about how to help their horse prepare for work just like any athlete would prepare.  Physiotherapy should be viewed as a way to keep your horse supple and fit and not just as a therapy used once injuries have occured.

www.galesphotonictherapy.com

Liz Scrivener teaches the Brian McLaren Photonic Therapy method and we plan a visit for her to SA in order to teach this around the country.  Both NHZA and Silversand use and promote photonic therapy in equines, canines and humans and having taken the first level of the McLaren Equine Course in her recent trip to Australia, Tamasine has been seeing the benefits ever since.

Photonic Therapy uses red light to light to stimulate acupuncture points and transfers energy across cell membranes.  In 1989, sufficient detailed scientific information was available to help people understand the interaction of light with tissue.  It is now possible to introduce it as a rational, scientific, advanced method of treatment using physics, biochemistry, phylogenetics, anatomy and acupuncture in its teaching.  It is important not to be frightened off by the science, as each step will be explained during training and you will see how it all comes together to form a whole.

Red light was used as early as the 14th Century in the treatment of smallpox and in the 20th Century, Niels Finsen was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work in treating smallpox and TB with light.
